Today was our first of four sessions with Lawrence from the NZ Breakers. Wow! Were we excited! Once again this programme brings together the perfect mix of goal setting and reflecting with the practical skills of basketball.
Today's physical focus was learning the role of a passer, a defender, and a receiver. From the simple game of 'piggy in the middle', our skills in these three areas improved in only 45 minutes.
We looked at what each role needs to do to be successful.
Our receivers would look at the passer, try to move away from the defender, have their hands out and call for the ball when they are ready to catch the ball. Our receivers also had to have 'active feet'.
Our passers had to keep looking at the receiver and decide listen for when it was time to pass.
The defenders learnt to defend on the side of the receiver, thus, being able to see both the passer and the receiver. Like the receivers, they needed to have 'active feet'.
Check out these photos below of us enjoying our coaching session and stay tuned for our next three sessions...

Congratulations to all those who volunteered to be a part of Thursday's MVTV show. It was so wonderful for us to many people interested in participating.
Today Room 21 were invited to be the audience at the show and it was fantastic for us to go along and support our class presenters.
Congratulations Madison, Claudia, Victoria, Robert, Carter, and Kamaiah for helping put on a great show!
We're looking forward to hosting more shows this year!

Korean Language Lesson
How exciting! Every Wednesday this term Room 21 have been given the wonderful opportunity to learn Korean.
Yesterday we learnt a little bit about the history of North and South Korea, as well as how the Korean language originated.
We also learnt some simple greetings, saying hello and goodbye to adults and our friends.
We are really looking forward to all our learning this term. Stay tuned over the term for updates on our learning.

Shared Reading Activity
This term our class shared book is called 'Holes' by Louis Sacher. The children are really enjoying being read to each day and are totally hooked on the story line.
Today we had a group challenge. We had a quiz based on the first 7 chapters in the book. To make this learning fun, we got into mixed groups and worked together. The children were discussing the main ideas and sharing ideas with each other. The worked cooperatively and it was pleasing to see some groups referring to the book to support their ideas (evidence).
Well done Room 21.
Check out these photos below of the groups working together.

Class of 2016
Welcome to Room 21 in 2016!
How exciting that another year of fun and learning in Room 21 has begun.
We've had a wonderful start to the year with the class settling well. We have 27 gems in Room 21 this year and already there is a a happy buzz within the classroom. We have such a lovely bunch of children in Room 21 and I;m really looking forward to joining them on their learning journey this year.
This term's topic is Hauora and well-being. Initially we'll be focusing on what it means to be an active learner, and establishing our routines in the classroom. We'll create a class treaty that ensure we treat each other with care and respect. We'll also look into the characteristics of a good friend, and how sometimes it can be hard making the right decision,. From here we will move into cyber safety and how we can protect ourselves on line. We plan to take a look at how devastating cyber bullying can be.
We're looking forward to a fantastic year and we encourage you to be a part of it. We would love you to visit the classroom when you can and take a look at what your child is learning. Hopefully you'll also be able to have lots of discussions at home with your child about their learning, their goals and their achievements.
