Megan's Homework Challenge - NZ Quiz

Check out these pictures below of Megan's very creative and very popular NZ Quiz (with a twist) for one of her Rich Task Homework Challenges.

Megan researched a range of interesting facts about New Zealand.  After organising the class into teams, she explained the rules. She had made questions cards, a score card and a coloured flag for each team. The clever twist for her quiz, was that she didn't ask a question for the participants to answer - instead she gave the participants the answer and they had to think of the answer!

What a fun and novel way to learn Megan, thank you so much for sharing your creativeness with us.  Perhaps the most exciting part was rewarding second place with a lollipop (wrapped lovingly with ribbon and a paper trophy in the shape of the number 2) and for the first place winners a yummy chocolate bar (also lovingly wrapped in gold ribbon)!

I wonder if anyone else in Room 21 will be inspired by this creativeness in their own rick tasks?

Breakers Basketball Coaching

In Week 4, Room 21 began their specialist basketball coaching sessions with Ben from the NZ Breakers.  This is a fabulous programme that not only teaches basketball skills, it also teaches values too.  Each child has been given a personal values booklet that we will work on each time Ben visits.  We are lucky to have Ben for coaching sessions!  Check out today's photos of the class enjoying the session.

Self Portraits - Art

On Tuesday 17th February we began our Self Portraits project for Art.  We are focusing on sketching.  We had photos taken of our beautiful faces and then Mrs Whitehead cut them in half (that was a weird feeling chopping your faces in half I can tell you).

We looked very carefully at the shape of our faces, excluding our hair.  Using the end of our pencil we traced around the shape on the paper and then in the air, committing the shape to memory.  Next we attempted to sketch that shape in our sketch book next to one half of our face (see pictures below).  We measured points on our faces.  This helped us to form the shape accurately.  We also looked at taking measurements for the eyes, nose and mouth - all to help with the symmetry and to make our face look right.  With the tricky task of the face complete, it was time to attempt our eye.  Another tricky challenge, but we were up to it!

Check out the photos below of us beginning our self portrait draft sketches.  The hardest part was probably trusting ourselves to start!  We'll keep you posted on our progress and soon we will be able to show you the finished product.
