Football Coaching

A huge thanks to Mr Oldham who organised a Specialist Football Coaching Session for the school this week.  

Room 21 shared with Room 20 and had an absolute ball (excuse the pun).  The two classes were split into two groups and played a variety of fun games.  Each game developed a range of football skills and most importantly was a heap of fun!  Check out the photos below of our Footballing stars of the future.

Homework Sharing 13/2/15

We had our first Homework sharing today and it was so pleasing to see the quality of learning that has been going on at home in the past two weeks.  The most popular was the New Zealand Quiz and the Cooking Challenges.  

It was also pleasing to see so many children showing their organisational skills and being totally responsible for their Reading Logs.  A reminder to make sure your child reads everyday for at least 15 minutes.  It can be any kind of reading material, a novel, a magazine, non-fiction, anything that tickles their fancy and gets them exploring the world and their imagination with a book.  You can even read with or to them.  Reading together is such a precious time.  Please also remember that the children need to write this up each day and have it signed by a parent.

The next round of fortnightly homework begins on Monday 16th February.  Your child now has their AWS Maths Homework book and they are required to complete pages each homework block.

Welcome to Room 21 2015!

Welcome to Room 21 in 2015

Welcome back everyone.  I hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful summer holiday with your family.  It is my pleasure to be teaching your child this year and I am looking forward to having a great year full of excitement, adventure, fun and learning!

Every fortnight there will be updates on our blog to show what has been happening in Room 21.  This will include samples of the children’s work, photos, and important reminders.  It is a great way to stay in touch with your child’s learning if you can’t always make it into the classroom.

I have an open door policy for parents in Room 21.  Please feel free to pop in any chance you get to look around the room and let the children share their work and progress with you.  I am available each morning and most afternoons, if you wish to have a chat.  The only afternoons that I am unavailable are Mondays and Tuesdays (due to Team and Staff Meetings).  Please feel free to email me anytime as well on kwhitehead@marinav.school.nz  – this is a great way to stay in touch!

Our Topic in Term 1 is Heroes.  We will be focusing on what the characteristics of a hero are.  Who are the heroes in our community, country, and the world? What important changes have these heroes / leaders have made in our world.

We will also look at what ‘Active, Agile Learners’ are and what qualities they possess. How we can make our classroom environment a safe and positive one.

Starting in Week 3 will be a specialist PE coaching session offered by the Breakers Basketball Coaching Team and this will run from Weeks 3-6 on a Tuesday afternoon (exciting!).

‘Life begins at the End of your Comfort Zone’

Welcome to Term 4

Welcome back!

Welcome back everyone.  Hopefully you all enjoyed a quality break with your family over the holidays. It’s great to be back at school and continuing our learning journey together.  As week 1 has rocketed by so quickly I can almost imagine how fast this term will whizz us by!

We hit the ground running this week and have had a number of exciting highlights. Our best must surely be the specialist coaching session we had with Ben from the Breakers on Thursday. He will be taking us for 3 more sessions over the next few weeks. The class was fully engaged during the lesson and can’t wait for the challenges next week! Check out the pictures below of us learning new basketball skills.

We have almost completed our Aboriginal Art Project.  Some have and these are on display in our classroom.  The picture had to tell a story and we have published our tales to go with our visual art.  I am extremely proud of our final products.  Thanks, as always, to Mrs Winters for her expert knowledge and insight when we do art.  It really reflects in the children’s work.

Game of the Week for our regular MVTV slot continued. This week we taught the school how to play a game called ‘Ladders’ and the children were most chuffed when they could see classes trying out their game during the week!

Our first round of homework is due on Friday 24^th October.  Please ensure your children are reading a minimum of 15 minutes each day and that they are completing their reading log. Spelling continues as normal, as does Maths. The rich tasks section now only requires one project to be completed every fortnight. There is an extra section, where the children can take charge of their learning and do extra work in an area they feel needs work, or they may like to complete any work from in class they haven’t finished.  Once your child shows evidence of this, please sign their sheet in their homework book please.

Bring on Term 4, Room 21!  It should be a cracker!
