Year 6 Transition Afternoon 20th June

Today was the second transition afternoon for our year 6 children.  This is a valuable chance for our year 6 students to experience the many wonderful experiences they will be given next year in our Intermediate department.

The children just love these afternoons.  They always come back buzzing from the lessons.  In each of the afternoons the classes are involved in a variety of activities including drama, art, coding, E-Pro challenges (technology), Science, PE, and cooking.

A reminder that the Year 5/6 Parent Meeting about our transition to Year 7/8 in this Thursday in the FLS at 5.30pm.  It is a wonderful opportunity to see forst hand what being a Year 7/8 student at MVS will be like.  We hope to see you all there.  If you are unable to attend for any reason and would like any information to help you with your decision, please contact Mrs Bergin-Stuart in the school office.  She will be more than happy to help you.

Congratulations to the following children for winning the class certificates.

Chloe, for your enthusiasm towards your 'Venom Explained' Information Report.  You've worked hard with your group to research a variety of exciting facts about the Poisonous Dart Frog.

Alec, for the effort you're putting into designing your Dream Garden for our Maths Rich Task. Keep up the great work - you can do it!

Science in a Van

Today was an exciting learning day with our favourite scientists from Science in a Van visiting. They delivered a fantastic show called, 'What's the Matter', that explored the 3 different states of matter (solid, liquid, gas).

Warren Pohatu Inspired Work Update

We are all busy completing our Warren Pohatu inspired art work at the moment.

Some children have finished and below are photos of their amazing pieces. Others are just finishing their final sketch, some are going over their sketch with black vivid, and others are busy creating bold, vivid colour patterns with pastel.

They are going to look magnificent on display in our classroom.  Well done the artists of Room 21!

Collaborative Learning using Google Docs

We're excited this week to be starting to use our Google Doc accounts to assist us with our learning.

We decided to do a Writing project in small groups of 4.  Our mission: To write an information report that explains how the venom from a poisonous creature works.  We want to find out as many exciting facts as we can about our creature. We also want to find out what happens first when someone is bitten, How does the creature's venom work? Does it affect the nervous system? The bloodstream? Or something else?

Each group has the use of two laptops and can research information for their report together.  It is fantastic to see the groups adding information all at the same time.  They will then use this research to complete their own information report.

The groups have chosen a range of interesting creatures including - blue bottle jellyfish, black widow, poisonous dart frog, komodo dragon, black venom, blue ringed octopus and more.

Team Oldham Values Awards

Every fortnight we award the children who have been displaying a specific quality of Marina View School.  This term, we are focusing on Self Motivation.

Congratulations to Callum Morris and Cameron Scott who received their Values Awards this fortnight.

A special congratulations to Daniel Leece  for being awarded the 'Active Leaner Award' Trophy for showing the many wonderful qualities of an active learner this past fortnight.
